Disease Detectives
Tests a duo's knowledge of epidemiology and public health and their ability to apply that knowledge to case studies. One note sheet is allowed.
Ecology
Tests a duo's knowledge of ecology and adaptations in a subset of North American biomes, which change every year. The biomes tested in the 2023-2024 season will be the taiga, the tundra, and deciduous forests. One note sheet is allowed.
Entomology
Tests a duo's ability to identify insect species by order and family. Students will be asked questions about insects and must use or construct a dichotomous key. Each team may bring a binder containing any information compiled before the tournament.
Anatomy and Physiology
Tests a duo's knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of 3 human body systems, which change every year. The systems tested in the 2023-2024 season will be cardiovascular, lymphatic, and excretory. One note sheet is allowed.
Microbe Mission
Tests a duo's knowledge of microbiology, microscopes, and a list of diseases. One note sheet is allowed.

Astronomy
Dynamic Planet
Fossils
Geologic Mapping
Earth and Space Science
Dynamic Planet
Tests a duo's knowledge of a topic in geology, which changes each year. The topic tested in the 2023-2024 season will be large-scale processes affecting the structure of Earth's crust such as tectonics. Each team may bring a binder containing any information compiled before the tournament.
Fossils
Tests a duo's ability to identify species and other taxa on a list of ancient organisms, which can be found on the Rules Manual, and one's ability to answer questions about those fossils relating to past environments and ecosystems, adaptations, evolutionary relationships, and stratigraphy. Each team may bring a binder containing any information compiled before the tournament.
Geologic Mapping
Tests a duo's ability to use and create topographic and geologic maps to interpret subsurface structures and past depositional environments on Earth and other planets.
Astronomy
Tests a duo's knowledge of general astronomy in addition to a topic that changes each year, which for the 2023-2024 season will be Stellar Evolution: Star Formation & Exoplanets, one's ability to answer questions on math and astrophysics relating to these questions, and one's ability to identify and answer questions about a list of about 16 deep sky objects (DSOs) that change every year, which can be found in the Rules Manual. Each team may bring two computers, two binders, or one of each.

Chem Lab
Materials Science
Forensics
Optics
Wind Power
Physical Science & Chemistry
Chem Lab
Tests a duo's ability to answer questions and complete lab tasks relating to Periodicity and Equilibrium. Each team may bring two note sheets.
Materials Science
Requires a duo before the tournament to build and bring one ceramic puck. At competition, the puck will be dropped from increasing heights onto a cement or steel slab until failure. Teams will also be tested on the materials science of ceramics, with an emphasis on chemical and crystalline structure, through a series of lab experiments and test questions.
Forensics
Tests a duo's ability, given a scenario and possible suspects, to perform and interpret lab tests to solve the crime and answer questions relating to general forensics chemistry and analysis. Each team may bring two note sheets.
Air Trajectory
Requires a duo, before the tournament, to design, construct, and calibrate a device capable of launching projectiles onto a target within a set of parameters that are specified during the tournament.
Optics
Tests a duo's knowledge of optics, such as reflection, refraction, critical angle, the electromagnetic spectrum, lenses, and mirrors, as well as their ability to position mirrors around a barrier to shine a laser on a target. Each team may bring a binder containing any information compiled before the tournament.
Wind Power
Requires a duo, before the tournament, to build a blade assembly device that can capture wind power, in addition to answering questions relating to alternative energy.

Helicopter
Robot Tour
Electric Vehicle
Tower
Technology & Engineering
Robot Tour
Requires a duo, before the tournament, to design, construct, program, and test a Robotic Vehicle that is capable of following track lines to reach a target at a set amount of time as accurately and efficiently as possible during the tournament.
Electric Vehicle
Requires a duo, before the tournament, to design, build, and test a mechanical device that uses electrical energy as its sole means of propulsion to travel as quickly as possible and stop close to a target point. Distances to the target point vary from 8 to 10 meters, and teams are only given the target point distance at competition.
Tower
Requires a duo, before the tournament, to design and build a Tower Structure meeting requirements specified in the rules manual to achieve the highest structural efficiency during the tournament.
Helicopter
Requires a duo, before the tournament, to construct and optimize a free flight rubber-powered helicopter that must achieve maximum airtime during the tournament.

Codebusters
Experimental Design
Bungee Drop
Write It Do It
Inquiry & Nature of Science
Experimental Design
Tests a trio's ability to design, construct, and write a lab report on an experiment that is only revealed during the tournament.
Bungee Drop
A duo will design, construct, and calibrate a single elastic cord to conduct two separate drops at specified heights and attempt to get a drop mass placed in a bottle as close as possible to, but not touching, a landing surface.
Write It Do It
Requires one partner to write a description of an object and how to build it, without any images, and the other partner to reconstruct the object only using the description.
Codebusters
Tests a trio's ability to decode encrypted messages in historical and modern advanced ciphers.
