What is Science Olympiad?Science Olympiad is a competition in which teams of 15 students compete in 23 different events spanning diverse scientific fields. Students in grades 6-9 compete in Division B, while those in grades 9-12 compete in Division C. Each event allows 2 or 3 students to compete together, so each student will compete in multiple events, generally anywhere from 2-5.
-
Is Science Olympiad a team competition?Yes. While not everyone will compete in every event together, each student will compete with one — sometimes two — partners in multiple events. Each event will have its own rankings and awards, but a team's performance in each event will contribute to the team's overall performance.
-
What events are there? Please see the Division B (6-9) events here and the Division C (9-12) events here.
-
Can I participate in multiple events?Yes. Competitions are split into 6 event blocks, so students can and should compete in multiple events so that the team can cover all 23 events with 15 students. Keep in mind that this means some events will take place at the same time, and most tournaments follow the same schedule in that the same events will overlap. Thus, it is best that you do multiple events in different time blocks.
-
Do events change between tournaments? No. While events will stay the same for the whole season, some events are rotated out each season, while others are updated to shift the content focus.
-
What is tested in my event? The Rules Manual contains the rules for each event. This describes the content that may show up on tests, the labs that you may have to perform, and/or the parameters for the device you must build.
-
Do I have to pay to participate? No. While Science Olympiad has a team registration fee and resources are expensive, our team runs fundraisers together to help meet costs.
-
Who do I contact with questions? The student leaders and coaches will be sure to assist you in any difficulties you may encounter. It is important to remain in contact with them, as a constant flow of communication is key in the success of our Science Olympiad Team. Please see the Contact page for our emails.
